Chattogram, Jun 17 (V7N) – The court has delivered its verdict in the widely discussed Bandartila child murder case, sentencing the accused Abir in connection with the killing of five-year-old Ayat.
Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Ali Akkas announced the judgment on Wednesday afternoon, concluding the high-profile case that drew widespread public attention across the country.
According to case details, five-year-old Alina Islam Ayat went missing from the Bandartila area of Chattogram city on November 15, 2022. Later, her body was recovered in six pieces, triggering shock and outrage in the local community.
Police subsequently arrested Abir, a tenant of the victim’s house, along with his 17-year-old friend. A charge sheet was later submitted accusing them in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, another sensitive case in Chattogram is also awaiting judgment. The verdict in a separate case involving the alleged rape of a three-and-a-half-year-old child in the Baklia area is expected to be announced today.
The incident, which took place on May 21, sparked public outrage and clashes between local residents. Following the incident, the victim’s family filed a case, and police later submitted a charge sheet accusing the sole suspect, Monir Hossain.
Testimony in the Baklia case began on June 10 and concluded within just five working days, with arguments also completed in a short span. The court is set to deliver its verdict within 25 days of the incident, drawing attention for the speed of the judicial process.
Authorities have increased security around the court premises ahead of the remaining verdict announcement.
