Dhaka, May 24 (V7N) – Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal Aminul Islam has said that Amnesty International should not interfere in the arrest process of two journalists in a case related to crimes against humanity involving the Shapla Chattar incident.
He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday (May 24).
Responding to journalists’ questions, Aminul Islam said he had no information regarding any ongoing investigation into the Awami League as a political party.
He also stated that investigations into 31 cases related to alleged crimes against humanity during the July Movement are in their final stage.
Referring to the long-pending Sagar-Runi murder case, the Chief Prosecutor expressed regret that the investigation has remained incomplete for years despite repeated expectations of closure.
He added that since taking office, he has sent seven cases for re-investigation and expects charge sheets to be submitted after Eid.
Speaking about the Ramisa rape and murder case, he emphasized the need for swift judicial proceedings and urged that efforts be made to conclude the case efficiently in the High Court.
