Dhaka, Feb 01 (V7N) — The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has dismissed the leave to appeal filed by BNP candidate Manjurul Ahsan Munshi seeking to regain his candidacy in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election from the Comilla-4 constituency. As a result, he will not be able to contest the election, lawyers said.

The Appellate Division, headed by the Chief Justice, passed the order on Sunday. Earlier, the High Court had declared Manjurul Ahsan Munshi’s candidature illegal, prompting him to file an appeal against that verdict.

Meanwhile, the Appellate Division accepted the leave to appeal filed by Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan, a candidate contesting with the paddy sheaf symbol, in the Comilla-10 constituency. The court also allowed him to participate in the election.

However, the Supreme Court dismissed a separate appeal filed by another candidate from the same constituency, Abdul Gafur Bhuiyan, seeking restoration of his candidature. As a result, he too will be unable to contest in the upcoming election.
