Dhaka, Sep 14 (V7N)– A Dhaka court has sent three people, including AHM Noman Reza, to prison in connection with an extortion case in Uttara. The other two accused are Tanzil Hossain and Faria Akter Toma.

According to police, the trio was produced before the court on Friday (September 12), which later ordered their detention.

The case stems from an incident on Thursday night when the accused allegedly entered the residence of Delwar Hossain in Uttara Sector-13. They reportedly demanded Tk 1 million, promising to help him get released from a case. The family said the accused collected Tk 5.5 lakh in cash and set a deadline for the remaining amount.

After the suspects left, Delwar’s family filed a case with Uttara West Police Station. Acting swiftly, police arrested Noman Reza later that night from the airport area. Based on his information, officers subsequently detained the other two from Uttara’s Jasim Uddin area.

Investigators revealed that since August 5, Noman Reza had been extorting individuals — including journalists — by filing July murder cases against them. Several victims have already lodged complaints with the Airport Police Station over his activities.
