Dhaka, Sep 09 (V7N) – The High Court has directed Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities to allow Amartya Roy to contest the upcoming Vice President (VP) election of the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU).
The order was issued on Tuesday by a bench comprising Justice Md. Mujibur Rahman Mia and Justice Biswajit Debnath.
Amartya Roy, a student of the 2017-18 session of the Department of Archaeology, had filed a writ petition on Monday, September 8, claiming he was unfairly excluded from the list of VP candidates. He also sent a legal notice to the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Chief Commissioner of the JACSU Elections demanding that his candidacy be reinstated.
Roy is contesting the VP post from the Sampriti Oikya panel, representing a faction of progressive students. The JUCSU elections are scheduled for September 11, and his inclusion in the ballot follows the High Court’s intervention.
