Dhaka, Aug 17 (V7N) – The High Court has set October for the hearing on the bail and dismissal petitions of former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in the murder case of Jubo Dal activist Abdul Qayyum Ahad in Jatrabari during the July movement.
On Sunday morning, Haque’s lawyer sought additional time before the High Court bench of Justice Md. Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja. The Attorney General also requested an extended date for hearing. The court subsequently scheduled the matter for October.
Earlier, on August 11, Khairul Haque’s petition—filed on August 7—was listed as the 18th item for hearing. When his lawyer pressed for an immediate hearing, the state side sought time, leading to heated exchanges between the parties. Witnesses said even a brief scuffle broke out among some lawyers in the courtroom.
Background
On July 24, police arrested former Chief Justice Khairul Haque from his residence in Dhanmondi. He was later shown arrested in connection with the murder of Abdul Qayyum Ahad, a Jubo Dal activist killed in Jatrabari during the July movement.
