Dhaka, May 19 (V7N) – Popular film actress Nusrat Faria has been sent to jail in connection with an attempt to murder case filed under Bhatara Police Station in the capital.

On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nasrin Akhter rejected Faria’s bail plea and ordered her to be sent to jail. The bail hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, May 22.

Sub-Inspector Md. Billal Bhuiyan, the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition seeking her detention, while Faria’s lawyer applied for bail. However, the public prosecutor strongly opposed the bail plea, leading the court to send her to judicial custody.

Earlier, on Sunday (May 18), Faria was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was preparing to travel to Thailand. She was later shown arrested in the case.

According to case sources, Enamul Haque, the plaintiff, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during a protest on July 19, 2024, in the Bhatara area as part of the anti-discrimination movement. He was reportedly hospitalized in an unconscious state following the incident.

Enamul filed the case on May 3, naming 283 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 17 artists. Nusrat Faria has been listed as the 207th accused, allegedly for her role as a financier in suppressing the protest movement.

The case has drawn significant public attention, as it involves several prominent figures and comes amidst growing scrutiny over the treatment of participants in last year’s anti-discrimination protests.
