Chittagong, May 06 (V7N) – Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote, has been arrested in four additional cases filed at the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong, on charges including obstruction of state activities, death threats, vandalism, and explosions.

Following a hearing on Tuesday morning, Judge SMM Alauddin Mahmud of the Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Court-6 granted the arrest request submitted by the investigating officer.

Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan, state counsel of the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court, confirmed the arrest order and said the charges are being treated with high importance due to their serious nature.

This development comes just a day after the same court ordered Chinmoy’s arrest in connection with the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was killed during a clash at the Chittagong court premises on November 26, 2023, following the rejection of Chinmoy’s bail in a sedition case.

Multiple cases, including murder, were filed after the violent incident. Chinmoy was previously arrested by DB police on November 25 from Shahjalal International Airport, while he was traveling from Dhaka to Chittagong.

Earlier, on October 30, a separate case was filed against Chinmoy and 19 others for allegedly insulting the national flag.

On the legal front, Chinmoy was granted bail in the sedition case by the High Court on April 30, but the Chamber Court temporarily suspended the order. However, the suspension was later withdrawn and a new date for the hearing was set. The court then directed his arrest in light of ongoing proceedings.

Previously, on February 4, a double bench of the High Court comprising Justices Atowar Rahman and Mohammad Ali Reza issued a rule asking the state to explain why Chinmoy should not be granted bail in the sedition case. That hearing was postponed on April 23 upon the state's request for additional time.

Chinmoy Krishna Das remains at the center of multiple legal battles amid growing political and social tensions linked to his organization’s activities.
