Dhaka, May 05 (V7N) – Former Member of Parliament from Dhaka-7, Haji Mohammad Selim, has been arrested in connection with the murder of Md. Monir during the anti-discrimination movement, following a case filed by Shahbagh Police Station.
On Monday morning, Shahbagh police produced Haji Selim before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka and submitted an arrest application. The court granted the arrest request, formally adding Haji Selim to the case proceedings.
Haji Selim is listed as accused number 12 among 351 individuals named in the case.
The case pertains to the killing of Md. Monir during clashes linked to the anti-discrimination protests, which drew significant political and public attention.
Former Cox’s Bazar MP Zafar Alam Placed on Remand
In a separate development, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court has granted a four-day remand for former Cox’s Bazar MP Zafar Alam in a murder case filed by Paltan Police Station. The case involves the killing of Jubo Dal leader Shamim, who died in violence during a BNP rally on October 10, 2023.
Authorities stated that Zafar Alam’s remand will aid in further interrogation related to the planning and execution of the attack that led to Shamim’s death.
Both cases underscore the increasing legal scrutiny facing political figures over their alleged roles in recent episodes of violence in Bangladesh.
