Dhaka, Aug 07 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of up to 60 kilometres per hour in 12 districts of the country by Friday evening, prompting caution for inland river transport.

The warning was issued in a weather bulletin for inland river ports, valid until 6:00 pm on Friday (August 7).

According to the BMD, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds with speeds ranging from 45 to 60 km/h are likely to affect the districts of Pabna, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar.

The weather office said the storms are expected to move from the west or northwest.

In view of the forecast, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department has advised inland river ports in the affected areas to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No. 1 and urged vessel operators to exercise caution while navigating.

Authorities have advised people in the affected regions, particularly those engaged in river transport and outdoor activities, to remain alert and follow official weather updates as conditions may change rapidly.
