Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N) – Heavy rain accompanied by thundershowers drenched the capital throughout Monday night, beginning shortly after 1 am and continuing into Tuesday morning. As of dawn, the downpour showed no sign of stopping.

The nonstop rainfall has left most areas of Dhaka waterlogged, with roads submerged, shops inundated, and many homes affected. Traffic slowed to a crawl on major routes, creating severe difficulties for commuters. Residents who ventured out for urgent work early in the morning faced the worst of the disruption.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is causing the widespread rainfall. Light to moderate showers are expected across the country, including the capital, and may continue until Saturday (October 4).

The 24-hour forecast from 9 am Tuesday predicts:

  • Light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds at many places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

  • Rain at scattered places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions.

  • Moderate to heavy rainfall in some regions nationwide.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
