Dhaka, Nov 4 (V7N)- Police stopped a group of disabled graduates at Shahbagh as they attempted to march from Raju Sculpture to the residence of the Chief Advisor on Tuesday. The protesters, in the 17th day of their sit-in, are demanding special recruitment and other rights for unemployed disabled people through a five-point demand.
The marchers, with shrouds tied around their heads, were halted near Shahbagh Police Station. They demanded a separate disabled quota in government jobs—2% in first and second classes and 5% in third and fourth classes. They also called for reforms in the national dictation policy to allow freedom in nominations and requested that the age limit for applying for government jobs for disabled individuals be raised to 35 years.
The protesters warned that they would not leave the road until their demands are met. The sit-in at the foot of the Raju Sculpture began on October 19.
