Gazipur, Aug 9 (V7N) – One of the arrested suspects, identified as Swadhin, has confessed to his involvement in the brutal killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) confirmed today.
Gazipur RAB-1 Company Commander K. M. A. Mamun Khan Chishti disclosed the information at a press conference, stating that Swadhin directly participated in the attack. “During the initial interrogation, he admitted to his role in the incident. Tuhin was targeted because he was recording a video of a robbery,” Chishti said.
RAB has so far arrested seven individuals in connection with the murder. The arrests were made in separate raids across the city on Friday night. All suspects will be produced before court on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, police detained five other people for questioning; they are currently being held at Bason Police Station.
A case was filed at Bason Police Station on Friday by the victim’s elder brother, naming 20–25 unidentified individuals as defendants.
According to police, the initial investigation revealed that the incident began when a man named Badsha Mia physically assaulted a woman in front of Shapla Mansion at Chandana Chowrasta. In retaliation, several people attacked Badsha with sharp weapons. Journalist Tuhin, who was present at the scene, began recording the altercation on his phone.
The attackers, upon realizing they were being filmed, ordered Tuhin to delete the video. When he refused—identifying himself as a journalist—they hacked him to death in front of a nearby market.
