Dhaka, June 20 (V7N) – Police attempted to lathicharge students of United International University (UIU) who were protesting in Dhaka’s Notun Bazar area by blocking the road with a five-point demand, including the cancellation of an expulsion order. Despite the police action, the students did not disperse.
The protest began at around 8 am on Thursday (June 20), causing severe traffic congestion on the Notun Bazar-Gulshan-Banasree connecting road.
The students demanded the unconditional withdrawal of the expulsion orders against university students and compensation for those affected. They also called for a thorough investigation to hold accountable all students, teachers, officials, and employees involved in the expulsions. Additionally, they urged the formation of a reform commission for private universities and demanded the cancellation of the 15 percent VAT imposed on universities.
