Dhaka, Aug 24 (V7N)- Law Minister Asaduzzaman has said the government is investigating allegations of enforced disappearances reported over the past six months, stressing that the current administration has a zero-tolerance policy toward such incidents.
He made the remarks at a dialogue titled “Post-Election Bangladesh: Political Promises and Reality”, organized by the Center for Governance Studies at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital on Monday.
In his speech, the Law Minister said allegations of disappearances are being examined from three different perspectives as part of the government’s investigation.
He also said initiatives have been taken to amend the Human Rights Commission Act and the Prevention of Disappearances Act, which were enacted during previous periods.
Speaking about proposed constitutional amendments, Asaduzzaman said the government is still waiting for the names of five representatives from the opposition party.
He added that the government is prepared to accept the opposition’s reasonable demands regarding the constitutional reform process.
