Dhaka, July 28 (V7N)- Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal and other election commissioners, including Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin, met with the Speaker to discuss the announcement of the schedule for the presidential election.

The meeting began at 11 am on Tuesday (July 28) at the Speaker’s office in the Parliament building.

According to election rules, the Chief Election Commissioner holds a meeting with the Speaker before announcing the presidential election schedule. Following this procedure, the Election Commission held a courtesy meeting with the Acting Speaker.

Earlier, the CEC and other election commissioners, along with senior officials, held a meeting at the CEC office on Sunday regarding the announcement of the presidential election schedule. During that meeting, it was decided to consult with the Speaker before taking further steps.

Under the existing constitutional process, the President of Bangladesh is elected by the votes of members of Parliament. For this purpose, the Parliament Secretariat will send the list of voters, consisting of the names of MPs, to the Election Commission.

Based on the voter list, the Election Commission will prepare the final voter list for the presidential election and announce the election schedule.

The meeting between the Election Commission officials and the Acting Speaker is expected to discuss these procedures and the next steps for holding the presidential election.
