Dhaka, May 28 (V7N)- Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul has said that strict legal action will be taken against the concerned hospital following the investigation into the death of six children at Ad-Din Hospital.
He made the remarks while exchanging Eid-ul-Azha greetings after prayers on Thursday (May 28).
The Health Minister said that a tragic incident occurred on Wednesday (May 27), when multiple children died in the hospital’s pediatric ward. He noted that the incident is under investigation and a committee has been formed to determine the exact cause.
According to initial information shared by the minister, the air-conditioning system in the children’s ward was reportedly turned off at the request of a guardian, after which a suspected gas leak may have contributed to the incident. He described the event as deeply painful and said accountability would be ensured.
The minister added that the investigation committee has been instructed to submit its report within 72 hours, after which legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
He also spoke about the country’s measles vaccination programme, saying that Bangladesh has successfully vaccinated more than 20 million children. He emphasized that expanded immunization coverage has significantly reduced child mortality and that routine vaccination activities are ongoing nationwide.
“We are bringing every child under vaccination coverage,” he said, adding that sufficient vaccine stocks are available and efforts continue to strengthen public health services.
