Dhaka, May 14 (V7N) — Former minister Dipu Moni and journalists Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa were produced before a tribunal on Wednesday in connection with the killings during the Shapla Chattar Hefazat-e-Islam Rally.

Earlier, on May 7, the tribunal ordered their appearance following an application filed by the prosecution.

The prosecution said the three accused would be shown arrested in the Shapla Chattar murder case on May 14 and that a petition would also be submitted seeking permission to interrogate them.

According to prosecutors, the violence surrounding the Hefazat-e-Islam rally in 2013 was “pre-planned.” They also alleged that Mozammel Babu and Farzana Rupa assisted in concealing the actual number of deaths at the time.

The prosecution further stated that investigators have identified a total of 58 deaths linked to the Hefazat-e-Islam rally across four locations in Bangladesh. Among them, 32 deaths occurred in Dhaka, 20 in Narayanganj, five in Chittagong, and one in Comilla.

Several others have already been arrested in the case and remain in jail, including former IGP Shahidul Haque, Ziaul Ahsan, and Shahriar Kabir.

The case is currently under investigation, and the tribunal has set June 7 as the deadline for submitting the investigation report.
