Sirajganj, Jan 17 (V7N) — Interim government’s Finance Advisor Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed has said that participation of all voters in the 13th National Parliament election scheduled for February 12 is crucial, as the election and the accompanying referendum carry historic significance for the country.
He said that if ‘Yes’ wins in the referendum, it will reflect the hopes and aspirations of the common people of Bangladesh. “Many elections have been held in the past, but reforms were never implemented properly. The referendum is an opportunity to decide how many reforms can actually be carried out,” he said.
Dr. Saleh Uddin made these remarks on Thursday evening (January 16) while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a ‘voting car’ campaign in front of the Sirajganj District Commissioner’s office, organized to promote participation in the referendum.
The Finance Advisor said that it is impossible for people, even in remote villages, to remain unaware of the referendum, as the government is conducting extensive publicity nationwide. “We are also campaigning ourselves and encouraging people to vote ‘Yes’,” he added.
He further said that although many governments came to power through elections in the past, reforms were implemented unilaterally according to party interests. “This time, we are saying that whoever comes to power will take decisions, but those decisions must be implemented with the participation of the people. That is why voting ‘Yes’ in the referendum is important,” he said.
Dr. Saleh Uddin emphasized that only through a ‘Yes’ vote can the will and expectations of the people of Bangladesh be truly reflected.
Earlier, the Advisor to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology formally inaugurated the voting car. As part of the ‘Yes’ campaign, the well-equipped vehicle will travel across various roads and alleys of the district every day, spreading awareness about the referendum.
