Dhaka, Oct 31 (V7N)- Reports have surfaced that prominent Islamic preacher Dr. Zakir Naik is expected to visit Bangladesh next month. An event management firm has reportedly begun social media promotions regarding his visit.

However, Foreign Affairs Advisor Towhid Hossain said the Foreign Ministry has no official knowledge of such a visit.

The news of Zakir Naik’s possible trip has also drawn attention in India, where the preacher is wanted on multiple charges. During a weekly briefing on October 30, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Zakir Naik is a fugitive wanted in India. We hope that wherever he goes, the concerned country will take appropriate action against him and consider our security concerns.”

Zakir Naik left India for Malaysia in 2016 and has since been living there permanently. The Indian government has filed cases against him for inciting religious hatred and money laundering, leading to the ban of his Peace TV network.

Naik, however, has repeatedly said that he does not wish to return to India, expressing concerns over receiving a fair trial under the current government.
