Rangamati, Oct 27 (V7N)- Farida Akhtar, Advisor to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, has said that the national elections will be held in February as per the Chief Advisor’s plan. She made the remarks on Monday (October 27) while speaking to journalists after a stakeholder meeting on Kaptai Lake at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, organized by the Rangamati District Administration.

Regarding the elections, the advisor clarified that announcing the election schedule is the responsibility of the Election Commission. “Until the schedule is announced, we will carry out the work that the interim government is legally mandated to do, with decisions taken in cabinet meetings,” she said.

At the beginning of the meeting, Commander Mohammad Faiz Al Karim, Manager of the District BFDC, gave a video presentation highlighting the problems and prospects of Kaptai Lake.

Addressing the lake’s condition, Farida Akhtar said that dredging is the first priority to protect Kaptai Lake, which is a demand shared by all stakeholders. She noted that pollution is increasing, with garbage and sewage being dumped into the lake, and that discussions are underway with the local government, Ministry of Environment, and other concerned authorities to take appropriate action.

She also highlighted that silt accumulation has lowered the water level, making it difficult for large fish to survive, while smaller fish are increasing in number. She called on everyone to join the government’s efforts to preserve the lake.
