Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) — Mohammad Tajul Islam, Chief Prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), has alleged that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attempted to spark a civil war in Bangladesh. He made the statement after the conclusion of arguments in Sheikh Hasina’s case on Thursday.
Tajul Islam said that Hasina had tried to incite the army by claiming that some officers were being unfairly tried and urging them to rise against the process. However, he noted that the “patriotic army” did not give in to this incitement.
“The patriotic people of Bangladesh have understood these attempts. Those against whom there is specific evidence are being tried, and the army has upheld the rule of law,” he added.
The Chief Prosecutor further stated that these actions show the accused have no remorse for the killings committed. He emphasized that the court should show no mercy to remorseless perpetrators.
Tajul Islam concluded by asserting that the trial aims to ensure that such atrocities never occur again in Bangladesh.
