Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N) – Fisheries and Livestock Advisor Farida Akhtar expressed regret over the inability to reduce the price of Hilsa, citing both natural and human-induced factors affecting production.
In a briefing at the Secretariat on Monday, she said that 103 tons of Hilsa have been exported to India this year for the occasion of Durga Puja. The Commerce Ministry has fixed the export price at $12.50 per kg, amounting to Tk 157.7 million in total export revenue.
The advisor also announced a ban on harvesting, buying, and selling mother Hilsa from October 4 to October 25. During this period, VGF rice will be provided to 620,000 fishermen families across 165 upazilas in 37 districts. A total of 15,500 tons of rice has been allocated for the program to support the affected families.
