Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N) – Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus will travel to New York, USA, on September 22 to attend the UN General Assembly session. Accompanying him will be four political leaders from various parties, marking a rare inclusion of opposition figures in the official entourage.
The political leaders joining him are: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s International Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, and National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday afternoon at the Foreign Service Academy, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the inclusion of opposition leaders reflects the importance of this year’s UN General Assembly session.
Shafiqul Alam also highlighted ongoing reforms by the interim government, noting that two laws related to the Election Commission are being reformed, including the approved proposal to amend Section 5 of the EC Secretariat Act-2009, aimed at speeding up the commission’s work.
Out of a total of 77 important reforms, 24 have been fully implemented, while 14 have been partially implemented, the press secretary added.
