Dhaka, Aug 19 (V7N) – The interim government has announced the withdrawal of 16,429 politically motivated false cases, in a move aimed at easing political tensions and restoring trust in the justice system. The announcement was made through a post on the government’s official Facebook page at 8:13 pm on Monday.

According to the statement, thousands of innocent citizens had been deliberately implicated in false cases by abusing state mechanisms to target political opponents. These cases not only caused immense suffering to the accused and their families but also undermined the country’s political and judicial systems.

“The withdrawal of these false cases will restore justice for those wrongfully accused and create a fairer political environment ahead of the elections,” the government said.

It further noted that this step is expected to reduce political harassment, encourage wider participation in the electoral process, and strengthen public confidence in both the judiciary and the political system. Ultimately, the government said, such reforms will help pave the way for a more peaceful and democratic process in Bangladesh.
