Keraniganj, Aug 11 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury expressed confidence that a fair election can be conducted given the current law and order situation in the country.
Speaking to reporters after inspecting the Tegharia High School polling station in Keraniganj on Monday morning, the advisor said the government is committed to ensuring the upcoming election is beautiful, fair, and festive. However, he stressed that fair elections require the cooperation of all participants and the public.
He added that alongside police personnel, members of the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will be deployed to maintain law and order during the election.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury also noted ongoing efforts to recover illegal weapons ahead of the parliamentary polls and confirmed that those accused in the murder of journalists have been arrested. “We must move beyond our bad deeds,” he said.
Highlighting voter facilitation, he mentioned special arrangements will be made for new voters with separate booths, as well as separate booths for men and women. He urged an end to the harassment of journalists.
During the polling station inspection, Dhaka District Police Superintendent Asaduzzaman, Keraniganj Upazila Executive Officer Rinat Fouzia, Keraniganj Circle Additional Police Superintendent Jahangir Alam, and Tegharia UP Chairman Haji Mohammad Lat Mia were present.
Earlier, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury visited Keraniganj Model Police Station and Dhaka (Keraniganj) Central Jail, where he pledged to improve the quality of food for inmates.
