Dhaka, July 18 (V7N) – A symbolic marathon was held this morning at the China Friendship Conference Center in the capital to commemorate the July Uprising, a mass movement that marked a turning point in Bangladesh's democratic struggle.

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the July Memorial Foundation. It was inaugurated at 7:00 AM by the ministry’s advisor, Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, who also joined the participants in the 5-kilometer run.

Speaking at the inauguration, Advisor Sajeeb Bhuiyan said, “This marathon is dedicated to the memory of those whose sacrifice helped shape a Bangladesh free from fascism and tyranny. We must move forward while remembering the contributions of the July warriors.”

The marathon route began and ended at the China Friendship Conference Center, passing through Ganabhaban, Sangsad Bhaban, and Khamarbari. Participants included family members of those killed or injured during the July movement, as well as youth and civil society representatives.

The program began with a one-minute silence in honor of the fallen.

A Tribute to Resistance

The July–August mass uprising, led by students and the general public, is regarded as a defining chapter in Bangladesh’s contemporary history. The movement saw thousands take to the streets demanding justice, democracy, and reforms.

As part of this year’s observances, symbolic marathons are being organized across the country, aiming to keep the spirit of the movement alive and raise awareness among the younger generation.
