Dhaka, June 19 (V7N) — Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has commended the bravery of the police in their ongoing anti-drug operations, stating that law enforcement officers are risking their lives to eradicate drugs from society.

He made these remarks on Thursday afternoon (June 19) while visiting Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s emergency department to inquire about the health of two injured police personnel.

The incident occurred earlier in the day when detective police launched a raid at Fakirapul intersection in Paltan, based on intelligence regarding drug traffickers in the area. During the operation, the drug dealers, traveling in a private car, opened fire on the police in an attempt to flee.

As a result, Assistant Sub-Inspector Atiq Hasan sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen, while Constable Sujan was shot in the left knee. Both were quickly rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.

Despite the attack, the police managed to arrest three out of the four suspected drug dealers involved. Authorities also recovered the private car, firearms, and drugs used by the traffickers during the operation.

After visiting the injured officers, the Home Affairs Advisor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continuing the crackdown on drug-related crimes, praising the dedication and sacrifice of the country’s police forces.
