Dhaka, June 14 (V7N) — Law Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul has said that the Law Ministry is actively working to ensure quick and affordable case settlements, safeguard human rights, and relieve citizens from the long-standing burden of legal battles.

As part of these reforms, amendments to the Civil Procedure Code (CPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CRPC) ordinances are currently being drafted.

Dr. Asif Nazrul made these remarks after holding discussions with stakeholders on the ordinance to further amend the Legal Aid Act, 2000, on Saturday.

He pointed out that approximately 5 lakh cases are filed across the country each year, but currently, only about 35,000 cases are resolved under Legal Aid. The ministry’s goal is to increase this number to 2 lakh cases annually, which could potentially reduce the backlog of cases by 40 percent.

To achieve this target, three judges will now be appointed to preside over Legal Aid cases instead of one, significantly speeding up the process.

Dr. Nazrul emphasized that these initiatives are part of a broader effort to reform the judicial process and make justice more accessible to the general public.
