Rangamati, Sept 21 (V7N) — A 24-year-old college student drowned while bathing in the Karnaphuli River in Kaptai upazila of Rangamati on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sadiz Shahriar Sanam, a resident of Mamudpur area in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district. His father, Md Nasir Uddin, is a retired assistant superintendent of police (ASP).
The incident occurred around noon at Pathorghata in the Sitar Pahar area of Kaptai. Sanam was reportedly bathing in the river with members of a 12-member tourist group that had travelled from Dhaka and Narsingdi to visit the area.
At one point, he went missing after entering the river. Local residents began searching for him after learning about the incident.
His body was recovered from the river at around 4:40pm, nearly three hours after he went missing. It was found about 40 feet from the spot where he had reportedly entered the water.
The incident was confirmed by Jyotirmayananda Maharaj, principal of Kaptai Sitaghat Temple, and Sarwar Hossain, a member of Wagga Union Parishad.
