Narsingdi, Sep 25 (V7N) – A fire broke out at the Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant in Palash Upazila early Thursday morning, disrupting electricity supply in parts of Narsingdi and neighboring Kaliganj.

According to Palash Fire Service Senior Station Officer Abdul Shahid, the blaze originated from a 132-33 kV transformer around 4:30 am. Firefighters from two units rushed to the scene at around 5 am and managed to douse the flames after nearly an hour of effort. The transformer was completely burnt.

“Initially, we suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit,” Shahid said.

Due to the fire, Palash Upazila and parts of Kaliganj remained without electricity from early morning until around 9 am, when power supply began to resume in phases.

When contacted for further details, Amirul Momin, Executive Engineer of Ghorashal Thermal Power Plant, declined to comment, citing his busy schedule.
