Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N)- BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant and help ensure security at Hindu religious sites during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations.

He instructed party members to guard Puja pavilions and coordinate with festival organizers to prevent any security risks.

The issue was discussed at a meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee at the party office in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Saturday. Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting, which focused on security arrangements for the upcoming festival. A 12-member Puja Monitoring Committee was also formed.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said party leaders and activists would work as volunteers in coordination with local Puja committees to help maintain security during the celebrations.

Rizvi alleged that a conspiracy was underway against the country, adding that the government was alert to potential threats. He expressed confidence that Durga Puja, also known as the Sharad festival, would be celebrated in a festive atmosphere despite the challenges.

The meeting also discussed the country's economic situation, with BNP leaders expressing concern over rising prices of essential commodities.

The leaders further emphasized the need to strengthen waste management and take effective measures to control dengue. They also called on the government to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to drugs to protect young people from substance abuse.

The meeting was attended by National Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Selima Rahman, AZM Zahid Hossain, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Farhad Halim Doner, Ismail Zabiullah, Amanullah Aman and other party leaders.
