PABNA, Dec 29 (V7N) — Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, special assistant to BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and the party’s nominated candidate with the sheaf of paddy symbol, submitted his nomination papers on Sunday for the Pabna-5 constituency in the upcoming national parliamentary election.
He formally handed over the nomination papers to District Administrator and Returning Officer Shahed Mostafa at around 3:00 pm, accompanied by a limited number of supporters in compliance with the election code of conduct.
Speaking to journalists after submitting his papers, Shimul Biswas said he would strictly follow all rules and directives of the Election Commission. He also pledged full cooperation with the administration to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election in the constituency.
Meanwhile, on the same day, BNP rebel candidate and former Member of Parliament KM Anwarul Islam submitted his nomination papers for the Pabna-3 seat. After failing to secure party nomination, he filed as an independent candidate with the sheaf of paddy symbol. He submitted his nomination to Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Musa Naser Chowdhury.
Reacting to the development, Anwarul Islam said he decided to contest independently in response to the demands of local leaders, activists, and the general public of Chatmohar. Expressing confidence, he stated that voters would reject “outsiders” and elect a local candidate to represent the constituency.
According to the Election Commission’s schedule, December 29 is the final date for submission of nomination papers across the country.
