BAGERHAT, Dec 24 (V7N) — Leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) held a joyful procession in Morrelganj of Bagerhat district on Tuesday evening, welcoming the historic return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman after a long 17-year absence.
The rally was organized on the occasion of Tarique Rahman’s scheduled return to Bangladesh on December 25. Under the banner of the Upazila and Municipal Chhatra Dal, the procession began at the municipal park around 7:00 pm and marched through various streets of the town before concluding at the market crossroads.
Following the procession, a brief street meeting was held where several BNP leaders addressed the gathering. Speakers included Upazila BNP President Md Shahidul Haque Babul, Senior Vice President FM Shamim Ahsan, former Municipal BNP President Abdul Majid Jabbar, Municipal Workers’ Party General Secretary Mashiur Rahman Jewel, former District Chhatra Dal leader Al Amin Hossain Russel, and Municipal Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Ariful Islam Ani, among others.
In their speeches, the leaders said the country would not tolerate the rise of any form of authoritarian rule again. They expressed optimism that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, a democratic and prosperous Bangladesh could be built in the future. They also called upon party leaders, activists, and supporters to remain united and work towards victory by casting votes for the BNP’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy, in the upcoming national election.
The rally passed peacefully amid slogans expressing enthusiasm and hope over Tarique Rahman’s return, which party leaders described as a significant moment for BNP supporters across the country.
