Rajshahi, Dec 22 (V7N) — Residents of Kakonhat Rishikul Union in Godagari Upazila, Rajshahi, are expressing distress over the foul odor and environmental pollution caused by waste from Naba Poultry Farm Limited, operated by Nabil Group. The farm, which produces layer and broiler chickens, is discharging waste directly into nearby canals and farmland, damaging crops, soil quality, and aquatic resources.
Locals report that hundreds of kilograms of waste are produced daily, and the absence of proper waste management has led to contamination of air and water, affecting public health. Children and elderly residents have suffered from respiratory and waterborne illnesses, while agricultural activities and fish farming in surrounding ponds have been disrupted.
Villagers, including Jan Mia and Ataur Rahman, stated that foul odors force them to keep doors and windows closed and have caused nausea among children. They also claimed that complaints to the farm management were met with threats.
Sohag Ali, Deputy Manager of Naba Poultry Farm, responded that the farm uses the waste to produce organic fertilizer and assured that any reported damages would be communicated to higher authorities.
The situation highlights growing concerns over environmental violations, public health risks, and the urgent need for proper waste management at poultry farms.
