Jhalokathi, Nov 18 (V7N) – Twenty leaders, activists and supporters of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) from Indrupasha village in Mathbari Union under Rajapur upazila have joined Jamaat-e-Islami. The joining ceremony took place at the Jamaat upazila headquarters at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, November 17.
The group, led by local Jubo Dal president and former union parishad member Mamun and BNP leader Salman Mahmud, formally announced their shift to Jamaat-e-Islami. Mamun stated that he had long worked for the BNP and participated in anti-government demonstrations both in Jhalokathi and Barishal. He said multiple discussions were held with senior BNP leaders after August 5 regarding allegations of extortion and criminal activities by individuals using the party’s name. According to him, no action was taken, prompting the group to decide that continuing in the BNP was no longer possible. As a result, they opted to join Jamaat-e-Islami.
Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Kabir Hossain, Secretary Sayedur Rahman, Sadar Union Ameer Aiyub Ali, Shuktaga Union Ameer Maulana Abdul Alim, Master Farukh Ahmed and other party activists were present at the event.
