Rajshahi, Oct 8 (V7N) – A team of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a rare stone statue weighing 156 kilograms during a special operation near the Bagha border in Rajshahi on the night of October 7, 2025.
According to a press release from the Commanding Officer of Rajshahi-1 BGB Battalion, the operation was conducted around 9:00 p.m. under the leadership of Acting Adjutant Assistant Director Md. Sohag Milan, with an eight-member special patrol team. The team carried out the raid approximately 8 kilometers inside Bangladesh territory near Pakuria area under Bagha Police Station.
The recovered statue has been valued at approximately Tk 1.56 crore due to its rarity. The BGB emphasized that the seizure reflects their ongoing commitment to protecting cultural heritage and preventing the smuggling of valuable artifacts across the border.
Authorities have secured the statue, and further investigations are underway to identify any individuals involved in its illegal transport or intended smuggling. The BGB continues to maintain vigilant border surveillance to combat smuggling and illegal trade in valuable items.
