MONGA, Feb 16, (V7N) – Mongla Municipality BNP convener and former municipal mayor, Md. Zulfiqar Ali, has come under fire following a statement about the Holy Quran that went viral on social media.

The statement, made during a BNP public meeting on February 15, sparked widespread criticism. However, Zulfiqar Ali claimed his words were misrepresented and taken out of context.

At a press conference held at his home on Madrasa Road on Sunday afternoon, he addressed the controversy, saying:
"I am a devout Muslim and have performed Hajj multiple times. I have always supported religious institutions and helped the poor."
"During my speech, I mistakenly said that some political figures were making fun of the Holy Quran. It was an unintentional mistake, and I deeply regret it."
"A vested group is spreading false propaganda by distorting my words. As soon as I realized this, I apologized to Allah and clarified my statement on my verified Facebook page."

Zulfiqar Ali apologized again to Allah and the Muslim community, urging people not to believe in rumors and propaganda.

The press conference was attended by several BNP leaders, including Mahbub Rahman Manik, Emran Hossain, Khorshed Alam, Md. Alauddin, Md. Razzak, and Md. Nasir.
