Rajshahi, Feb 15 (V7N) – The charred body of a woman was recovered from a rented house in Rajshahi, while her husband remains missing. The deceased has been identified as Helena Akhter (35), a former expatriate in Saudi Arabia. Police recovered her remains on Saturday morning and sent the body to Rajshahi Medical College for an autopsy.
Helena lived in a house near Namo Bhadra railway line in Chandrima police station area with her second husband, Alamgir Hossain Royal. Since their marriage, Alamgir had cut ties with his family, and now police cannot locate him.
Helena’s mother and brother suspect foul play, claiming she was murdered Friday night. However, police have yet to confirm the cause of death.
Chandrima Police Station OC Matiar Rahman stated:
“Around 9 AM, we received a call about a burnt body. Officers recovered it and sent it for an autopsy.”
The house had little furniture, and Helena slept on the floor.
Only a mosquito net had burn marks, while the rest of the house remained intact.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesperson Sabina Yasmin noted that Helena’s son lived in a madrasa and was not present.
A disabled woman in a neighboring house claimed Helena should have screamed if there was a fire but heard nothing.
Helena’s husband Alamgir Hossain Royal is missing, raising suspicions.
Police suspect he fled and are actively searching for him.
The exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report.
