Habiganj, Dec 25 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB) has seized 100 kilograms of Indian cannabis and arrested two suspected drug traffickers during a narcotics and anti-smuggling operation in Habiganj.
According to BGB sources, the operation was conducted at around 1:30 am on December 24, 2025. A patrol team from Teliapara Border Outpost (BOP) stopped a suspicious goods-laden truck on the Dhaka–Sylhet old highway in the Jagdishpur area of Madhabpur upazila. Upon searching the vehicle, the team recovered sacks containing cannabis that had been cleverly concealed under straw used as cattle feed.
The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is Tk 3,70,000, officials said.
The arrested individuals were identified as Rahmat Ali, 43, son of Siddiq Ali of Krishnapur village under Madhabpur upazila, and another accomplice from the same upazila.
Commenting on the operation, Lieutenant Colonel Md Tanzilur Rahman, Commanding Officer of Habiganj Battalion (55 BGB), said Border Guard Bangladesh is carrying out its duties with utmost sincerity and strictness to ensure border security and prevent drug trafficking and smuggling.
He added that BGB’s operations aimed at building a drug-free society will continue in the future.
The arrested suspects and the seized narcotics have been handed over to Madhabpur Police Station following legal procedures. BGB intelligence surveillance and operations against drug and smuggling syndicates remain ongoing.
