Dhaka, Dec 17 (V7N) – In a major law enforcement initiative aimed at controlling the security situation and curbing armed elements, Bangladesh’s joint forces launched “Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2” on Saturday evening. Over the past four days, the operation has resulted in the arrest of 2,433 individuals and the recovery of 12 firearms.
The operation was initiated following the shooting of Dhaka-8 constituency’s potential independent parliamentary candidate Sharif Osman Hadi. In response, the core committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs on law and order convened to ensure a peaceful environment during the upcoming national elections by recovering illegal weapons and neutralizing potential threats.
The operation, jointly carried out by police units and the army, began on Saturday night. As of Tuesday evening, AIG (Media & PR) of Police Headquarters, H.M. Shahadat Hossain, confirmed that the campaign has so far arrested 2,433 individuals.
In the past 24 hours alone, 823 people were taken into custody. During this period, authorities recovered three LGs, one locally-made one-shooter gun, eight rifle rounds, four pistol rounds, three cartridges, and two Burmese knives.
Police and security officials emphasized that the operation will continue until election-related law and order is fully ensured, targeting organized criminal and extremist networks across the country.
