Barguna, Oct 17 (V7N) – Chief Whip of Parliament Nurul Islam Moni has issued a stern warning against extortion, land grabbing, drug trafficking and juvenile gangs in Patharghata, Barguna, directing the administration to eliminate such crimes within the next two months.
“There will either be extortionists in Patharghata or the officer-in-charge (OC) will remain,” he said, signalling a tough stance on tackling crime and warning that extortion would not be tolerated.
He made the remarks on Friday during an exchange-of-views meeting with officials from various government departments and members of law enforcement agencies at the Patharghata Upazila Parishad. The meeting was held on the third day of his seven-day visit to the Barguna-2 parliamentary constituency, which covers Patharghata, Bamna and Betagi.
Moni said he was working to improve the lives of people in coastal areas and would continue those efforts. Referring to his development plans for the constituency, he said he had initiatives in mind that people had not yet imagined.
During the visit, he inaugurated a ceremonial platform at the Patharghata Upazila Parishad and an inspection room built for members of parliament.
He also provided assistance to 45 Durga Puja venues in the upazila, allocating Tk 5,000 and one tonne of rice to each venue.
