Dhaka, Oct 11 (V7N)- Bangladesh has achieved significant success at the International Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said after returning to the country on Sunday morning.
Speaking to journalists at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the Speaker said the banned Awami League had sought to portray Bangladesh internationally as a violator of human rights, but he believed its allegations had been disproved.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed also said bilateral discussions could be held on bringing former prime minister Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh. He added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was working on the matter.
The Speaker described Bangladesh's participation in the IPU conference as a notable achievement. He said discussions were held with representatives of the United Arab Emirates on measures to reduce the suffering of migrant workers.
He also highlighted discussions involving the Forum of Women and the Young Parliament during the conference.
According to the briefing, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will represent the Asia-Pacific region in a leadership role for the next year.
The conference provided an opportunity for Bangladesh to engage with international parliamentary representatives on human rights, migrant workers' welfare and other issues of mutual interest.
