Dhaka, Jul 06 (V7N) — Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held a meeting with European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon, during which the ambassador delivered an invitation from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the invitation requests the Prime Minister to attend the Third Global Gateway Forum, scheduled for June 2027, and deliver a keynote address.

The ministry said the proposed visit would also provide an opportunity for a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

It added that the Prime Minister's participation in the forum is expected to create new opportunities for increased European investment in Bangladesh's sustainable infrastructure, digitalization, energy, transport, healthcare and education sectors under the European Union's Global Gateway Initiative.

During the meeting, Ambassador Michael Miller also handed over a congratulatory letter from European Union Vice-President Kaja Kallas to Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman, congratulating him on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
