New Delhi, Oct 11 (V7N)- Indian YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has been released from police custody, officials said on Sunday, a day after he was detained in Gurugram ahead of a planned protest in the national capital.

Rathee was arrested from his residence in Sector 56 of Gurugram on Saturday before he could attend a demonstration organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

The CJP had called for the protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Police had tightened security across Delhi on Saturday to prevent protesters from reaching the designated demonstration site.

Rathee's release was confirmed by police officials on Sunday. However, details surrounding the circumstances of his detention and release were not immediately available.

The planned demonstration comes amid controversy over the electoral-roll revision process and calls from the CJP for accountability from India's Election Commission.
