DHAKA, March 28, (V7N) — State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque today announced that the government will make sports compulsory from Class IV starting from the next academic year.
Responding to a question from Zahidul Islam, MP from Chattogram‑16, the minister said the initiative is part of the ruling party’s election manifesto.
“Initially, the programme will be launched with seven sporting events, with plans to gradually include more disciplines over time,” Aminul Haque stated.
He emphasized that the government aims to give equal importance to sports alongside academic studies to ensure holistic development of students. The move is also intended to reduce children’s dependence on digital devices and encourage greater participation in physical activities.
The minister expressed hope that the initiative would have a positive impact on students’ physical and mental well‑being, fostering healthier lifestyles and stronger social engagement.
