New Delhi, Sep 13 (V7N)- UAE Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, on Saturday (September 12).

The meeting is being viewed as one of the highest-level engagements between the United Arab Emirates and Iran since the outbreak of the ongoing regional conflict.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

According to Abu Dhabi, the discussions focused on initiatives aimed at reducing regional and international tensions, de-escalating conflicts and strengthening stability in the Middle East.

The two sides also emphasized the importance of creating greater opportunities for peace and development for people across the region.

However, it has not been confirmed whether the meeting resulted in any specific decisions, agreements or joint initiatives.

Earlier, Iran and the UAE joined other BRICS members in endorsing a joint statement calling for restraint and efforts to reduce the ongoing conflict and tensions in the Middle East.

The high-level meeting between the UAE and Iranian leaders came just one day after the joint BRICS statement, adding significance to the latest diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
