Tehran, Aug 23 (V7N)- Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Sardar Mohebbi has claimed that US President Donald Trump's announcement of further economic pressure against Iran is evidence of what he described as Washington's military failure.

Mohebbi made the remarks in comments carried by Iranian state media.

He said Trump's decision to intensify economic pressure amounted to a “silent admission” that the United States had failed to achieve its objectives militarily.

“If you had won militarily, there would have been no need to start an economic war,” Mohebbi said.

According to the IRGC spokesman, US sanctions are not a new challenge for Iran. He claimed Washington has imposed economic restrictions on Iran for nearly 47 years, targeting what he described as the country's economic foundations.

Mohebbi further alleged that Washington's current objective is not necessarily to introduce new measures capable of significantly weakening Iran's economy, but rather to influence public perception and shape Iranian public opinion.

He said Iran has prepared “different plans for each situation” to respond to potential US actions.

These plans, according to Mohebbi, include reducing the effects of economic pressure and expanding Iran's economic and diplomatic relations with other countries.

The IRGC spokesman also claimed that Iran is already reducing the impact of US pressure by developing direct economic ties with countries around the world.

He said the results of what he described as Iran's efforts to “bypass America” would become visible soon.
