Tehran, Aug 03 (V7N) – Iran has claimed that the United Kingdom, Bulgaria and Ukraine have assured Tehran they will not participate in the ongoing military conflict against the country.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai made the claim, according to a report published by Al Jazeera on Sunday (August 2).
Baghai said the Iranian Foreign Ministry had received telephone calls from the United Kingdom, Bulgaria and Ukraine over the previous 24 hours. During the conversations, he claimed the three countries made it clear that they would not take part in any ongoing war or military operation against Iran.
Commenting on the Strait of Hormuz and ongoing discussions with Oman, Baghai said the talks between Tehran and Muscat concern a transit route that is neither a northern nor a southern route.
He stressed that the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is a separate issue from the negotiations with Oman. Baghai alleged that the United States failed to allow maritime shipping to resume within the timeframe outlined in the relevant agreement or memorandum of understanding.
According to the Iranian spokesman, Washington instead launched airstrikes on Iran before the agreed deadline had expired. He claimed that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed as a result of what he described as a US breach of its commitments.
The claims made by the Iranian Foreign Ministry have not been independently verified, and there has been no immediate public response from the governments of the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Ukraine or the United States regarding Baghai's remarks.
