Tehran, Apr 21 (V7N) — An Iranian-flagged cargo vessel has crossed the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz despite ongoing US sanctions, according to reports by Tasnim News Agency.
The vessel, identified as Shuja-2, reportedly departed from Shahid Rajaee Port, located near Bandar Abbas, and is en route to Kandla Port.
Tracking data confirms movement
According to maritime tracking platform MarineTraffic, the ship is currently transiting through the Strait of Hormuz. The data also confirms India as its declared destination.
Strategic implications
The development comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region, particularly over restrictions and security measures affecting maritime movement through the crucial waterway, which handles a significant portion of global oil shipments.
While no immediate reaction has been reported from Washington, the movement of the vessel highlights ongoing challenges in enforcing sanctions and maintaining control over one of the world’s most critical maritime routes.
